ARKAS AEGEAN LINK REGATTA 13 – 18 August 2024 Race Announcement

  1. ORGANIZATION COMMITIE

ARKAS Aegean Link Regatta is organized by Aegean Open Sea Yacht Club Çeşme Marina (EAYK Çeşme Marina) and ARKAS, in cooperation with Çeşme Marina, Chamber of Shipping Izmir Branch and Çeşme Municipality.

  1. RULES
    • The race will be held in accordance with the International Sailing Federation (WS) Sailing Racing Rules, WS Special Offshore Regulations, WS Regulation 20 (Advertising Code), this Race Announcement, Turkish Sailing Federation (TYF) General Yacht Racing Rules, Policy Decisions and Additional Racing Instructions, if any. In the event of a conflict between the Race Notice and other Instructions, the later date of the Race Notice and Race Supplementary Instructions, if any, will prevail. Between sunset and sunrise, the RRS Chapter 2 rules are replaced by the “International Rules for Preventing Conflict at Sea”.
  1. ADVERTISING

3.1       The advertising code for the race is defined as Category C in accordance with WS Regulation 20.

3.2       Sponsor advertising/sideline number stickers should be placed on both sides of the hull in a visible place on the Headrests. Sponsor flags/pennants may be displayed during the race, but must be waved before and after the race. Boats that do not display sponsor flags/pennants may be penalized by the Protest Committee. Boats without numbers and whose flags and pennants are not displayed in the port will have 5% time added to their corrected finish times. Additional time will be added by the race committee without question.

3.3       Boats with special advertisements on them must present the permits they have received for carrying advertisements.

  1. OPEN RACE CLASSES AND THE RACE FEE
    • Boats in the following classes, between 7-20m in length, with inboard or outboard engines, and with sufficient safety equipment according to the number of people on the boat can participate in this race.
  2. IRC class: It is open to boats that have an IRC measurement certificate. IRC class B; Boats built as cruising class that want to participate in the races by obtaining an IRC certificate can compete.
  3. Support Class: It is open to boats that do not have any measurement documents and meet the race criteria in the yacht class.
    • Class Ranges: Class ranges of boats will be determined after final registration.
    • There is no maximum crew limitation, but there will be at least 3 people on each boat. All kinds of safety equipment will be of sufficient number and features according to the number of teams. Crew members participating in the race are required to have license documents obtained in 2024 or a 2024 visa. Crew members without a license cannot participate in the race. (It will not be possible to issue a temporary license.) Registrations must be submitted to the race secretariat by Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at 16:00 at the latest.
    • An IRC Measurement Certificate, a valid proof of insurance is required on registration. For support boats, the full length is the measurement on the boat manufacturer’s certificate (builder’s certificate).
    • Registration fee is 10,000TL for all boats. An additional fee of 1,500 TL will be charged for each participant more than 7 people. (The early registration fee for boats registered by July 1, 2024 is 8,000 TL.)
    • The organizing committee may exclude any boat or crew member from the race, provided that it gives justification.
  1. PLACE

The event will be hosted by Çeşme Marina. The race secretariat will be at the EAYK Çeşme Marina office and the notice board will be installed in the same place. Information about the race will be made via Whatsapp group. A warning sign on land will be made on the post in front of EAYK Çeşme Marina Office.

 (J70 peer boat races will be organized with teams who want to participate. The rules are shared in Annex-1. Participation request must be stated during registration.)

Bifing   : 09.30 via Whatsapp group (It is recommended that boats should leave Çeşme Marina at 10:00 at the latest.)

Award Ceremony: Starting from 20:00, awards will be delivered to the winners by the organization, accompanied by the press.

  • If the race schedule falls behind the planned number of races on a daily basis or in total, one more race per day may be held.
  • The last warning signal that can be given on Sunday, August 18, 2024 is at 16:00.
  • For boats in the support class, 1 race is planned every day on 14-15-17-18 August 2024.
  1. MEASUREMENTS
    • The Race Committee has the right to measure boats without prior notice or after each race.
    • According to R.R.S. 78.1, all boat owners or responsible persons are responsible for keeping their boats in compliance with the class rules.
  1. SCORING SYSTEM
    • Low Point System will be applied.
    • The winners of the ARKAS Aegean Link Regatta will be determined according to the total points they received from all races.
    • If at least 5 race results are obtained in IRC A and B groups, 1 bad race will be discarded. If there is a race of 4 or less, no race will be discarded.

No race will be discarded for support class.

8.4. Support class: is open to boats that have not previously received an IRC certificate and accept to compete in this class.

Support classes will compete under the white pennant.

All support class boats will compete under a single class.

For support classes, corrected time CT = ET x TCF will be applied.

CT= corrected time, ET= Time spent in race, TCF= time corrector.

TCF values ​​of boats using folding propellers in the support class will be increased by 5%.

TCF values ​​of boats using non-Dacron sails in the support class will be increased by 5%.

TCF values ​​of boats using folding propellers and non-Dacron sails in the support class will be increased by 10%.

  1. RACE INSTRUCTIONS

Race instructions will be announced via Whatsapp EAYK/Race group.

  1. INSURANCE

All boats participating the races will have third party liability insurance covering the boat and the racers. It is the participants’ responsibility to check that their current insurance policies provide coverage in this regard and, if necessary, to add the relevant supplements to their insurance.

Organization, Race and Protest Committees are not obliged to check insurance policies.

  1. RESPONSIBILITY
    • Crew members participate in races at their own risk.
    • RRS 3 Competition Decision – “A boat’s decision to enter or continue a race is its sole responsibility.”
    • EAYK Çeşme Marina Representatives, Aegean Offshore Yacth Club, Sponsors, Race and Protest Committees organizing these races do not bear any liability for any material damage, injury, loss, damage, any disability or death related to the races before, during or after the races.
    • Yacht owners or responsible persons who registered for the races; They decide on the responsibility of their team, their yacht, whether or not to participate in the race.
    • Those who register for the race are deemed to have accepted this Race Announcement and all the rules referred to in this Race Announcement.
  1. RIGHT TO USE VISUAL MATERIALS

All participants of the races accept in advance that the Organizing Authority and/or their sponsors will make any visual recordings regarding the races, broadcast the recordings live and/or on tape, take photographs and use the photographs for any purpose without any time or limitation.

  1. MOORING

Boats coming to Çeşme Marina will be able to moor free of charge 2 days before the first planned race and 3 days after the last planned race (12 August 2024 entry, 21 August 2024 exit.). Electricity and water expenses during mooring are the responsibility of the boat owners.

  1. AWARDS
    • Top three winners will be awarded in each class. Within IRC Classes, IRC Overall will also be awarded.

Marine charts of the region will be used.

  • Radio Communication

It is mandatory for the boats to have a VHF marine radio and to have it on during the races. Competing boats are required to listen to VHF channel 71 and, if possible, channel 16, unless otherwise stated..

Annex-1

ARKAS EAGEANLINK REGATTA J70 RACE RULES

1- The races will be held on 16 August 2024 at Dilaila Beach Club.

Briefing 10.30

Start 11.00

2- The teams participating in the race will be ranked from first place to bottom according to the overall results of the first two days of Arkas Eageanlink Regatta races.

3- Participation will be limited to 32 teams by the race committee.

4- The race groups of the boats will be determined by the race committee.

5- J70 races will consist of groups of 4 boats, the top two teams will advance to the next round and the last two boats will be eliminated.

6- Each team can participate in the races by selecting a team of 4 people from its own team.

7- Depending on the number of participants in the race, some groups may consist of three teams each in the first round races and the first two advance to the next round.

8- The races will be held with 4 separate boats and the team changes will be on the sea. Teams that do not board the transfer boat despite warnings on land will be eliminated.

9- It is not possible to change the skipper after the races start.

10- Crew changes cannot be made between teams.

11- There will be jury practice at sea during the races. Jury decisions are final and there is no protest practice on land.

12- Start and finish procedures and other details will be explained in the briefing.

13- These races will be held for entertainment purposes, they have no effect on Arkas Eageanlink Regatta scoring.
